Survival and Transformation, The 3rd annual DARTS X GREENHOUSE art exhibition.

from the curator: Survival and Transformation explores how cultural forms - images, sounds, language - survive not through permanence, but through reinterpretation, recurrence, and transformation. Co-hosted by DXARTS and the UW Biology Greenhouse, the exhibition approaches the greenhouse as both ecological infrastructure and living archive: a space where dormant forms are sustained, reactivated, and continually reshaped by their environments. Drawing from strategies of digital preservation - storage, emulation, migration, and reinterpretation - the exhibited works examine how the past remains latent within contemporary technological and ecological systems. In both biological and digital contexts, continuity depends less on fixity than on adaptation and reinterpretation.

from the artist: NameDraft in an installation of unique textiles woven while on residence at Soft Data and Common Wares Residency, DXARTS Department at the University of Washington. During this time, I was exploring the potential of coding and the feminist legacy of craft through the historic process of NameDraft hand-weaving. Each artwork was constructed from a uniquely coded pattern that imbued the physical web of cloth with abstracted poetics and algorithmic power. Expanding this weaving processes with contemporary data software, translations of keywords tied to this moment in time and optical perceptions were translated into pixel codes, letter by letter, to create unique overshot structures. Each matrix created networks of eyes and columns, rivers and blooming icons held in inherited and hand-dyed yarns.
