Shear / Moment at Axis Pioneer Square
'Seattle artists Celeste Cooning and Allyce Wood create from the solid structure, a base formed in medium and imagination. Pattern spills and adapts to create fictitious expressions; detail builds to create new perspectives. Cooning’s study of geometry and historical design pairs with a dedication to materiality to create expansive veil-like structures. By interrupting physical space, she invites a reevaluation of personal scale and architecture. Wood’s work on paper and sculpture combine similarly billowing and dissolving aesthetics to create allegorical portraits and botanical arrangements. Through adapted traditional object arrangements, her illustrative hand creates a believable yet conceptually rich version of reality. Both artists’ create their own language in negative/positive space, suspension, and a pristine simplicity. Through each iteration of development, their quiet gestures expand.'
